A Happy New Year to you, one and all! It's time for a quick recap of how 2020 went, and why Cale should mean anything to you in 2021 😉
2020 was a terrible year, as COVID-19 made for a year unlike any we've ever seen before. Nonetheless, I did manage to get my first novel Folk Springs Eternal written and released (see here), and I rounded the year off by passing 1,000 combined streams on Spotify. Not a massive amount, but a milestone nonetheless. By the end of 2021, I want to have cracked the 10,000 mark. Help me get there by streaming my top-performing song "Cate Maguire's Polka" here.
2021 is going to be another terrible year, if the bastard virus has much to do with it. But I still want it to be a storming year for me musically. I've got a new album coming, my first full album under the Cale banner. And believe me when I say it'll be different from anything I've done before. I'm giving nothing much away at this stage, but you'll see what I mean when you hear the first few singles. You'll also like it; so don't worry, I'm keeping it folk 😉
I also want to sell more copies of my novel. So far I've sold about 75 since it was released in late August, which isn't bad going, but it's got a lot more potential. I won't rest until, like the streams, I've done 10,000 copies. I'm continuing to contact influencers where I can, and the good news is I've been hearing back from one or two of them! So the only way is up, baby.
Last of all, I want my Gaelic (of the Scottish variety) to continue to progress. I've made a lot of progress since I started learning it properly with Michael Klevenhaus, my teacher from Bonn, but as with the novel, I know I have a lot more potential in me. So as one might say in the Gaelic, bidh an t-sràid doirbh, ach chan eil dad sìmplidh (the road will be hard, but nothing is simple). Hope I got that right, but it's damn near close enough 😁
2021, let's do this!
