New Year, new website :-)
I do hope you all had a Happy Christmas and are looking forward to seeing the New Year in. I turned 31 two days before Christmas, and had a lovely, relaxed day with family and friends. Best birthday in years 😉 Christmas was good too!
Did you catch my cover of Wizzard’s Christmas song, then? 😉 I hope you liked my take on their song “I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday”. If you haven’t heard it yet, and are still feeling a little Christmassy – then check it out here.
In the run-up to Christmas I was hoping that promoting/showcasing my folk direction in this way would result in some Christmas sales, especially in view of the 20% off deal I was offering across all my music and merchandise. Unfortunately, there haven’t been any sales, but I think that’s got less to do with the music and more to do with the fact that it’s difficult to get it in front of the right people, i.e. the people who are hardcore fans of folk music. And they do exist 🙂 So in this respect, I will be moving on to Leah McHenry’s next training lesson, which covers…Facebook ads! And we’re talking FREE Facebook ads – it’s not a good idea to get into paid ads until you’ve got the free ones mastered. So I’m stoked for learning more about that.
While we’re on the subject of Facebook, my Facebook Live videos are continuing to get better. My latest one, filmed just after the Christmas period, boasts the best video quality that I’ve had so far, I think because I finally got the lighting right (or better, anyway). Plus, all in all I was happy with my playing as well. Check it out here:
So what else has been going on at Cale HQ? Well, following on from my 20% off Christmas deal, I’ve decided to offer a New Year’s deal as well. And this is not 20%…but a whopping 50% off all Cale music and merchandise on my Bandcamp page! 🙂 Want to benefit from this deal before the year ends? Then check out my Bandcamp page and enter this code: end50off
Another thing I’ve been busy with lately – and that the more astute of you may have picked up on – is the fact that I’m finally undertaking a complete re-vamp of this blog, to turn it into a proper, fully-fledged website! Yeah! 🙂 Trust me, it’s a lot of hard work, but already some aspects of the site are starting to look more professional. You may have spotted the green lines with the shamrock in the middle that I’m using to separate my posts into more manageable segments? And you may have seen a pop-up window 20 seconds into your visit here, offering you 2 free songs of mine in exchange for signing up to my mailing list? Ah well, those are two such examples. This also shows that I have achieved the goal I set last time of getting the two emails with the two free songs locked, loaded and ready to send 🙂 But here’s another example: scroll down to the bottom of any page on this site and you will see this footer:
This might look simple, but it took a lot of HTML and CSS testing (in English: coding stuff), not to mention trial and error, to get this to look the way it does now 😉 So I am getting there, slowly but surely!
The other goal I set last time was to continue with my MBCT (Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy). This I have done, and it is continuing to make life more bearable (much more bearable, actually) for me. Seriously, I can’t emphasise enough how much of a difference this therapy has made to my mind, so if you suffer from moments of anxiety, doubt, depression, negativity or anything similar, I recommend you check it out – the audiobook course I’m using can be found here.
GOALS PAST AND PRESENT
So coming now to my goals for next time – what shall they be, I wonder? 😉 Well, here we go:
- Read up about and understand HTML and CSS (important for professionalising blog and turning it into a proper website)
- In line with Goal #1, continue to revamp website, posting a “Before” and “After” picture of one or two pages to track progress! 😉
- (If I get time) Start looking into Leah’s next lesson, which covers free Facebook advertising!
Talk to you in a fortnight with a report on that, folks!
